Through Positive Eyes was presented at the Iziko Slave Lodge, one of Cape Town’s oldest buildings. Built in 1679 to house enslaved people brought to the Cape, primarily by the Dutch East India Company, the building now interprets South Africa’s history under the theme “From human wrongs to human rights.” Originally launched in Durban, the exhibition was adapted to the Slave Lodge’s smaller gallery by condensing and overlapping elements of the installation. Small tapestries by the Keiskamma Art Collective were added, and members of the Cape Town Through Positive Eyes artivist collective, all living with HIV, shared their photographs and personal stories in a live storytelling finale.
